Pear Blossom's feelings for Dong Yun are written with this raw, unfiltered honesty that caught me completely off guard. The system senses a huge energy surge and immediately flags it as a bad vibe, which tells you everything about how intense her feelings are. And then she thinks it directly: The widow had to run in her mind eight hundred times a day. Eight hundred times. That line hit me like a truck. It's not subtle, it's not romanticized in a traditional way, it's this desperate, confused, aching fixation from a girl who doesn't have the vocabulary or the experience to process what she's feeling. What makes it even more powerful is how the author contrasts this intense inner emotional life with Pear Blossom's external situation. She's starving, she's been sold, she's living in a household that treats her like disposable labor, and yet her mind keeps going back to this beautiful widow who showed her a moment of kindness. The scene where she carries Fubao toward the kitchen and thinks about how soft the child's arms are like lotus roots—there's this tenderness in her that hasn't been crushed by hardship. And then the system betrays her trust by forgetting the agreement, which makes her feel abandoned all over again. Her outburst—If you regret it, I won't bind with you!—isn't just about the system's promise, it's about a girl who has nothing and is desperately clinging to the one thing that gives her hope.
