Okay so I've been thinking about this book on a deeper level and the jade symbolism is actually really layered. Jade in Chinese culture represents purity, value, and transformation—rough stone becomes something precious through cutting and polishing. Isn't that exactly what Shen Xingbai and Ji Rou are going through? He's this rough, damaged person who's been 'cut' by his accident and his past life's trauma, but he's still holding onto something valuable inside. And Ji Rou—she was seen as materialistic and shallow in the original timeline, but the real her is hiding underneath, just like the Imperial Green hidden inside that worthless-looking stone. The Mu Na Bayberry Skin is the perfect symbol for this. On the surface, it looked like the most valuable thing in the room, and everyone fought over it. But inside? Completely worthless. Meanwhile, the stone Shen Xingbai bought for 110,000 that looked like trash? Top-grade Imperial Green. The story keeps telling us that appearances are deceptive, that true value isn't what you see on the surface. And then there's the recurring motif of promises—Shen Xingbai's childhood promise to marry Ji Rou, his promise to give her a wealthy life, the promises people make at auctions that they can't keep. What's real and what's surface-level? That seems to be the whole question here.
Excellent story. Pathetic updating! Second time in a week without an update for several days. Given the expense of unlocking chapters, this is a less than stellar performance from this writer. No apology, no excuse, nothing. Just a dearth of chapters and deafening silence. Shameful!
