Good idea, but very bad reading format and not so good translation. The world background is good and good potential for story development . H
I not very along in the novel, but it is very interesting so far. The author has done a great job of capturing your attention from the first page and keeping it.
A beautifully written novel, I couldn't put it down throughout. Positively enthralling
"The bright red national emblem gleamed brilliantly beneath the sunlight." I need to talk about this visual because it stuck with me like nothing else. The whole sequence from the military jeep screeching to a stop to Xiao Zhang waving those two red booklets in the air like trophies—it played out like a film. You could see every frame. Xiao Zhang's military vest soaked through with sweat, the way he salutes and announces everything loud enough for the crowd to hear, the collective gasp when people see the marriage certificate, the thunderous applause that erupts. And then Huo Zhixing raising that certificate high, his hawk-like gaze sweeping across the crowd, his voice cutting through the noise like a blade. The contrast between the chaotic courtyard full of hostile villagers and this moment of official, legal, unassailable truth is chef's kiss. But what really made the scene work was the sensory detail throughout. The pungent stench of Liu Laizi that assaults everyone's noses. The herbal fragrance that naturally clings to Su Jiuyue. The creaking of leather boots on wooden stairs. The pounding of hearts that becomes the only sound between them. Even the small blue-brick house at the end feels like a character itself, this quiet sanctuary after the storm. The author knows how to paint with words. Every environment serves the emotional beat. That courtyard was a pressure cooker and then suddenly it was just the two of them walking away hand in hand, and the old military doctor left behind furrowing his brow. The world feels lived-in and real and I was completely immersed the entire time.
