I don't usually write reviews but here goes.I actually think they the premise is great and allows for a very expansive story. The plot and direction is quite interesting to say the least. The first hundred or so chapters is easy to read through and leaves you wanting for more. That said, I have a lot of gripes with this story.The plot develops in a predictable and formulaic manner. It's almost always a strict rise and fall, something good then bad then good etc. I know it happens quite lot with cultivation novels but much more so on this one. The story is also frustrating all the way. It's all just set-up and nothing is ever resolved. The story progresses and characters get replaced but the status quo never changes. The pacing also feels atrocious because the author explains everything. Nothing is left unsaid. There are neither emotions nor subtleties left for the reader to decipher. Of course this is the case with a lot of other novels but the sheer number of relevant characters in this novel makes it more pronounced and all the more agonizing. The story is quite literally all explanation and exposition.With so much words spared for exploring the main character's psyche, you'd think he'd be a well developed character. He's not. He's still by and large pretty much the same as a generic MC. He's definitely a carbon copy of every other MC from the author's other novels.A part of me really wants to see where this goes because I actually really like the world building, and the interesting and complex storyline. But it's honestly a chore to slog through hundreds of chapters of a practically stagnant story.
The suspense is thrilling. I can't seem to understand Eva too. But the work is good so far so sweet.

"I warned you." "If you followed me again..." "...you'd end up just like the zombies." The chapter opens with Rong Yuxuan absolutely dismantling Long Juanli and her brother with lightning. This is pure action, high intensity, and then—cut to—what? A family eating STEAMING HOT MEALS in a villa with central air conditioning and a basement shooting range. The tonal whiplash is incredible. One moment you're reading about electricity wrapping around people's legs and the next you're reading about braised prawns and pork rib soup. And I love it. The author does this masterful pivot from the brutal outside world to this insulated bubble of normalcy inside the villa. The description of the meal is almost painful in its detail—fresh prawns from a dimensional space, vegetables picked moments earlier, rice that's freshly milled. In a world that has become hell, this ordinary dinner feels revolutionary. The backup generator humming, the crystal chandelier, the steaming food—it's all so deliberately mundane that it hits harder than any action scene could. Then the alarm goes off. Beep. Just one word and the entire atmosphere shifts again. The pacing here is surgical. You go from warm family dinner to tactical readiness in literally two sentences. Lin Shaoan doesn't hesitate—he pulls Qingtang behind him, grabs a rifle, disengages the safety. No panic, no drama, just trained response. And then the knock. Knock. Knock. Knock. The author repeats the sound four times and each one lands like a drumbeat. After all that action, all that tension building with the alarm, we get three gentle knocks. The contrast is everything. The chapter ends with Rong Yuxuan declaring he'll stay across the street and guard them, which is the perfect cliffhanger because now we're left wondering: will she trust him? Will she ever find out who he really is? The author has set up this incredible tension between two people who share a history neither of them fully understands, and I am OBSESSED with where this is going.
Good book looking forward to reading other's in this series.

While the reason Vicky broke up with Tyler initially was rather lame I simply love Tyler, by far the best ML EVER, sometimes to obsessive but atleast he isn't sleeping with or emotionally vested in mistresses like other book MLs
