Atleast now even if James and Thea got separated again in their mission, James is alone with no other nuisance women with him. I just hope no woman would pop up and pester James until he finds Thea. It would be ridiculous if another woman character appears and sticks to James.
The author really knows how to use setting to mirror emotion, and this section is a masterclass in atmospheric storytelling. Let me paint you the picture: outside, the wind is blowing harshly, but inside the room, it's warm. Song Zhiyao is playing with Lu Jianwei, telling her stories in her clear, crisp voice. The little girl is decorating a sheep plush with bows, completely absorbed, completely happy. This scene is so vividly described that I could practically feel the warmth of the heated floor, see the pink bows matching the little sheep, hear Song Zhiyao's gentle voice. It's domestic, intimate, almost cinematic. And then—BAM—the maid bursts in with news of the rumors, and the entire atmosphere shatters. The contrast is brutal. One moment you're in this cozy, safe space where a child is finally smiling after trauma, and the next you're thrust into political intrigue and slander. The author also does something really clever with the main hall scene. Lin Guanguan is sobbing, crying about how innocent Lu Jinyu is, while Madam Lu sits perfectly composed at the head of the table, sipping tea like nothing is wrong. That visual of the cold, detached matriarch while everyone else is in emotional chaos? Chef's kiss. The setting tells you everything about power dynamics without a single word of exposition.
