There's this one moment in Chapter 10 where Chen Jue is leaning against a tree after eating those milk-berries and the author just... stops. The afternoon sunlight filters through the leaves, scattering over him like shards of silver on the ground. Chen Jue doesn't gather them—he just falls asleep. I had to pause reading because it was so vividly cinematic. You can literally see the light, feel the warmth, hear the squirrels in the branches. It's late spring, fourth month of the lunar calendar, and everything feels suspended in this perfect quiet moment. The worldbuilding here isn't about grand descriptions of castles or markets—it's in these small sensory details. The bamboo pipes feeding the basin, the thick paper windows, the wooden stump that serves as a dining table, the wild kudzu roots and angelica and fifteen-year-old ginseng. The author doesn't tell us this is a poor village; we understand it through Chen Jue's calculations about salt prices, his worry about buying things for summer and autumn and winter, the fact that he's eating Wowo-tou and pickled vegetables because that's all he has. The world feels lived-in because the author trusts us to notice.
I love the book I’m addicted but I hate how they keep making herself come off as a whore like was that necessary, almost as if she was begging for something she doesn’t wanna do. She keeps messing up with the guy like girl shut up ......
