Karima, you are the G.O.A.T
Great story! At first I was hesitant to read it but when I started reading the story I cannot stop. Will be waiting for Kai's story. I would like to give more gems but I have already given all my gems to the Wright family.... I will surely give some gems for this book again....
I loved it. I absolutely love Erica’s come back. She tortures him mentally and Antonio tortures her physically. It’s all in Erica’s favour.
This is an amazing book I can’t wait to read the next
Geez , the protagonist here speaks her mind about everything . Love it
Very interesting
That jade pendant. Let's talk about it, because it's carrying so much more weight than just "valuable object Su Wanwan sells." It's her mother-in-law's keepsake. That means it represents the family line, maternal love, heritage — everything Pei Changfeng has left of his mother. When Su Wanwan pawns it, she's not just selling an object. She's selling a piece of his history, his family's memory, to buy his future. The empty box she returns with is such a devastating image. She gives back nothing but air and wood. And the Village Chief's internal monologue hits on a deeper theme: "It was also because Su Wanwan's parents were no longer around that she had to marry into this family." There's this quiet commentary on how women in this world are constantly the ones who sacrifice — their families, their possessions, their futures — to hold broken men together. She has no parents to fall back on. No safety net. Just this man and his ruined leg and her stubborn refusal to let him die. The pendant itself is described as having "crude carving" and "average quality" by the shopkeeper, but Su Wanwan's master called it a fine piece. Who gets to decide value? The market? Or the love attached to an object? The shopkeeper sees thirty taels and thinks he's won. But that pendant was worth infinitely more to a family. "As long as it can save my husband, I'll sell everything I have." That line echoes beyond this moment. It's the thesis of the whole story — love as total, reckless, economy-defying sacrifice. And the tragedy is that Pei Changfeng knows exactly what she's giving up. He feels it in that trembling of his eyelashes.
When is the next chapter? Ive been waiting forever
Just reread this book again, highly recommend but may not be appropriate for young readers as there are some steamy scenes. Fantastic writing author.
