This chapter is proof that the best romantic dialogue doesn't happen face-to-face—it happens in text messages. Let me just replay this exchange in my head: He: "Your luggage was so heavy. How did you move it over? You should have told me. I could have carried it after work." She: "I saved 140 in one go~" [playful sticker] He: "You're amazing" That's it. That's the entire courtship ritual and it's perfect. He's genuinely worried about her struggling with luggage and she's calculating how much money she saved. Their love languages are completely different and that's what makes it work. He expresses care through protection and provision; she expresses it through efficiency and practicality. And somehow those two languages translate. The in-person dialogue is just as good. Watch how their voices are distinct even without tags. Qing Yanshen's lines are short, earnest, sometimes awkward—"Is there anything I can help with?" "I'm strong." He doesn't know how to be smooth with her yet because he literally doesn't remember being smooth with her. Jiang Qingmi's dialogue is sharper, more guarded, laced with subtext. When she says "I don't know how long I'll stay here," she's not talking about the apartment. When she asks about his head wound, she's really asking whether he wants to remember her. The author never lets us forget that every conversation between them has two layers. And Monkey's question—"You've got your wife here, so why don't you stay with her?"—is the funniest line in the chapter because it's the audience surrogate asking the question we've all been wondering. The contrast between Qing Yanshen's respectful silence and Wang Ge's desperate WeChat messages to his wife creates this whole ecosystem of relationship voices that feels incredibly lived-in. Nobody sounds the same. Nobody sounds like the author trying to sound poetic. They just sound like people.
