The dialogue in this chapter is so sharp I had to slow down and re-read certain exchanges. Meng Suling's voice is instantly recognizable — she's blunt, sarcastic, and unapologetic. 'Those two rotten fish and spoiled shrimp are quite well-matched though!' — that's not someone who sugarcoats anything. And Huang Caiying? Her voice is completely different. She's all pleading and deflection, wrapping requests in family obligation. 'Don't let the family drift apart like strangers.' Classic grandma move. But Yunwei's dialogue is where it gets really interesting. She's the most controlled speaker in the room. Notice how she never raises her voice? Even when she's delivering devastating truths, she does it calmly. 'We all grew up in the same compound. I know what kind of person Du Zhenkai is.' She's not angry, she's calculating. And then she pivots to 'Mom, don't be angry. It's not worth ruining your health over irrelevant people' — instantly shifting from strategist to sweet daughter. The code-switching is impeccable. The narrative voice itself is also worth noting. It's close third person, staying mostly with Yunwei's perspective, but it dips into her mother's feelings too. The author doesn't over-narrate — they let the dialogue carry the weight. There's a scene where Yunwei 'playfully blinked' and the grandmother's mood instantly lifts. One gesture, one word, and the whole emotional temperature of the room changes. That's craft.

I didn't skim. Just because a person didn't like a story doesn't mean they didn't read. Come on, how old are we? The fact is, if you take this story seriously, there is a lot that is lacking and makes no sense. The one defining thing that helps make the stupid actions of these characters make sense is that the author is writing revenge p.orn. That's why setting is the way it is. That's why a school system is acting like fascists in the open, that's why every kid except for his friends, seem to be psychopaths. All for the revenge.
