It makes me wish the other novels in the series were also this long and detailed since I love all the couples and would have loved to see the depth of their relationship and feelings to the extent that we saw for Vincenzo and Claire.
Hi Mimi, I’m glad that you enjoyed reading this book. Thank you so much for the kind feedbacks ,it means a lot to me and inspires me to write better.
129 chapters 9-28-23
Let's talk about the single most tense scene in these chapters. Lin Wan holds a bloodstained knife to her own father's throat. The stench of urine mixes with blood. Old Lin is screaming like a pig being slaughtered. Madam Zhang has collapsed into a puddle of her own making. And Lin Wan? She doesn't even look at them. She just says, calmly, "Someone. Go bring the village chief." Like she's ordering tea. The stakes here are absolutely maximal and the author never lets you forget it. This isn't a situation where the protagonist has hidden advantages or a secret army. She has a knife, a wound on her forehead that's still bleeding, and the terrifying willingness of someone who has already died once. When she tells Village Chief Li "I already died once. The debt I owed for being raised by them has been repaid with one life"—that's not drama. That's a person who has done the math and found that she has nothing left to lose. What's brilliant about the tension here is how it shifts. You think the conflict is resolved when the document is signed, right? Wrong. Because then Madam Zhang yells after them: "I'd like to see whether you two little brats can survive this winter!" And suddenly the stakes transform. The immediate physical danger is gone, but now the real test begins. Winter. No money. No home. A sick child. The Lin family's curses echo behind them as they walk into the freezing wind toward a ruined temple. The author plays this perfectly—the external conflict with the family is won, but the survival conflict has just begun. And Lin Wan's response? She doesn't look back. She holds her brother steady and says they're going to eat meat. Not a grand declaration of revenge. Just a promise of a meal. That's the kind of stakes that matter: not "will she defeat her enemies" but "will they survive the night."
I didn’t like the ending, I felt the last chapter was rushed and things didn’t end well
