SleepyGod
I just finished this section and I need to decompress because the emotional whiplash is real. Let me think about how the author structures these chapters. Chapter 10 opens with a morning after—the aftermath of the kidnapping revelation. Quick setup, then immediately into family conflict over food and labor. The grandmother's demand that Xiong harvest beans while Dagen gets to rest is such efficient storytelling. In one exchange, we learn about the family hierarchy, the favoritism, the military pressure, and Dagen's growing defiance. Then Pear Blossom explodes with that line about why it's always her mom working—perfect dramatic peak. After that explosion, the author gives us a walk through the village, which serves as both breathing room and worldbuilding. We get the villagers' perspectives, Qin Dashan's offer of help, and then the Liu Youcai encounter. That encounter is where the pacing gets really interesting. It starts almost friendly—Liu Youcai calling out to Dagen—but quickly becomes a slow dismantling of Dagen's dignity. Every line Liu Youcai says chips away at something: the third brother's failure, the military burden, the ragged children. By the time Dagen is 'walking in a daze,' we've been through an emotional gauntlet. Then Chapter 11 opens with the race—pure joy, pure connection. The contrast is staggering. The author knows exactly when to squeeze and when to release. And that ending where Pear Blossom suggests visiting her grandparents? That's a cliffhanger disguised as an innocent request. What could possibly go wrong? Nothing good, that's what.
The ears keep showing up and I think they're doing a lot of thematic heavy lifting here. Su Yin grows these fluffy snow-white ears when she transforms — they're a physical manifestation of her power, but also her vulnerability. In the dream, Lu Xingcun reaches for them almost reverently. When he actually touches them in the car, it's the closest thing to intimacy they've had. And then she pulls away and offers her paws instead. The ears represent the part of her that's wild and untamed — the Nenglizhe power that makes her dangerous but also something soft and touchable. Lu Xingcun is drawn to both aspects. The dream sequence especially frames them almost like animalistic features that trigger his protective instincts, but also his desire. Then there's the whole transformation motif. Su Yin goes from 'thin and small, always looking like she was on the verge of death' to someone who kicks men in the junkyard and outsmarts the entire judicial system. The ears are part of that transformation — they're visible proof that she's become something more than the original host ever was. They're a symbol of her reclaimed power, which is why touching them feels so charged. Also the blue medicine she invents — literally named 'Blue Medicine' because it's blue. The author keeps undercutting grand sci-fi concepts with dead simplicity, which feels like a commentary on how power doesn't need to be fancy to be effective.
Tbh, I am not that kind of guy who is interested in first pov novel, but this hidden gem is too much for me to ignore. I was immersed easily as I read the first chap, for the narrative flowed seamlessly. The translation was also flawless.I hope the author won't drop this.keep up the good work, author.
⚠️Trigger warning . If you cant accept abuse this story is not for you.. Abusive ML (I think according to the plot his the one) who thinks it's cool to teach the FL a lesson by watching her nearly being r*ped? He treats her less than a pet.
