The man who had been furious over the failed plan moments before was now completely undone by a simple arm-link and a soft voice. The chemistry between them in this scene is insane—even though both are playing roles, the fact that he actually seems affected by her touches makes you wonder how much of this performance is real feeling. Then Qin Yunchuan arrives and the power dynamic completely flips. Within three pages, we go from Mianmian being pushed to the floor to Second Aunt Qin getting her face slapped by a butler. That's not just a scene change, that's a complete reversal of power, and it happens so smoothly you don't even notice the transition. But then — and this is where the author is really smart — they DON'T keep the pace at maximum intensity. After the slapping scene, they slow down. Mianmian and Qin Yunchuan share a quiet moment. She kisses his cheek. He peels her orange. It's tender, it's soft, it gives you a breather. And then, instead of ending there, they pivot to something completely different: Gu Xu leaving, Mianmian discovering the narcissus, the whole plant-talking subplot. This is textbook pacing control. High tension → emotional release → new mystery → cliffhanger. The chapters end with Mianmian realizing nobody believes her about the plant, and Gu Xu basically lying to her face about Big Brother's health. Two separate threads, both ending on notes of uncertainty and dread. The only thing I'd critique is that the transition between the family drama and the plant scene feels slightly abrupt — we go from "throw her out" to Mianmian alone with a housekeeper in the same beat. But honestly, that abruptness works in favor of the story. It mirrors how Mianmian experiences this world: one moment you're watching someone get slapped, the next you're having a conversation with a flower. Nothing is stable here, and that's exactly the point.
Let's talk about Zhuo Ling's internal voice because WOW. "Because biting myself hurts." — This is the kind of line that defines a character in eight words. It tells us she's pragmatic, self-preserving, and has absolutely zero interest in suffering unnecessarily. It's also funny as hell. "You should be grateful, brat. Back in the resource-starved underground cities of the apocalypse, you wouldn't even have the chance to eat this if you wanted to. Even human waste was recycled to extract every useful material." — This is apocalypse survivor logic at its finest. She's looking at cow dung and thinking about resource scarcity. This is a person who has seen the bottom and is not about to be impressed by normal things. The external dialogue is equally sharp. Second Aunt's cruelty is so naturally vile—you can hear the sneer in every line. "You must've committed terrible sins in your previous life to be born a fool nobody wanted!" This is the kind of thing real people say in small villages and it's horrifying because it's believable. Chang'an's dialogue is deliberately sparse, which works perfectly. He says very little, but when he does—"Does it hurt?" "Ling'er, be good. Don't play with Xiaohu anymore."—it carries weight because he's not a talker. His actions speak louder. The narrative voice itself is a character. Zhuo Ling's internal monologue oscillates between apocalypse-hardened survivor and five-year-old body with zero impulse control. The drool. The accidental kissing. The internal screaming about exchange rates. It's chaotic and hilarious and completely consistent with someone who is mentally an adult trapped in a child's body who really, really likes fresh grass.
I like tower climbing/dungeon novels with universal systems(most people have the same system just different abilties) in the first place, and this one is a good example of those with its power system lore and background we have seen those far and then you have the semi-unique part of readers/commenters being involved in this streaming system in a way that I have not seen before. To summerise what I said, good book I like want more.
Very interesting story, the two sisters are definitely well designed and developed. The author has a unique style which are both realistic and fun at the same time. Well done!
