That is SO much hotter than any generic romance novel confession scene. The author really understands that trust is built in quiet moments, not grand declarations. And the little detail where Yan Zihao shifts his body to shield her from the sun on the cart ride back? I literally squealed. These two have such a natural, comfortable dynamic. They're not doing performative romance stuff—they're just genuinely caring for each other. She sleeps on his shoulder, he notices and adjusts. He checks on her after the nightmare without being asked. When she tells him about the famine vision, he doesn't dismiss it. He says 'I'll protect all of you.' That line hit me so hard. The breakfast scene with the family is also surprisingly sweet. Mother Yan noticing Qingran seems distracted and sending Zihao to check on her—that's the kind of wholesome family energy that makes you want to live in this household. And the way everyone treats Qingran with genuine warmth, not suspicion or jealousy, is refreshing. This isn't a toxic family drama disguised as a cozy story. It's actually cozy.
