Immediately, a number of screams rang out of the audience as over a hundred people spat out blood and collapsed on the floor with pale faces. They couldn't understand how but they knew that the young ladies gaze had destroyed their cultivation. But the question remained why?. Suddenly they heard her voice.
Okay so this whole rebirth setup is actually really interesting and I need to talk about it because the way the plot is constructed here is not your typical generic reincarnation story. Ruan Tiantian has been reborn and she has this knowledge from her past life that Shen Xiuyu becomes a murderer. That single piece of information changes EVERYTHING about how she interacts with him now. She's not just avoiding him because he's hot or scary — she's actively keeping her distance because she knows what he'll become. And the author is doing this really clever thing where we as readers are in on the secret but Shen Xiuyu has no idea. Every time he tries to get close to her, we're watching this dramatic irony play out and it's delicious. The KTV scene itself is basically the inciting incident of their second-life relationship. She thinks she can just blend in, be invisible, but of course the plot won't let her. Shen Xiuyu notices her immediately. The dice game is a perfect plot device too — it's how he forces interaction, creates a reason to sit next to her, and it leads directly to the cliffhanger where she runs out crying. The author built this whole chain of cause and effect in just a few pages and it feels natural, not forced. I also love that the subplot with Ling Yushi is already established here. She clearly has feelings for Shen Xiuyu and the moment he asks her to move so he can sit next to Ruan Tiantian, that tension is set up perfectly. This is going to be a love triangle and I am HERE for it. But what really got me was the ending of this batch. She runs out. She's trembling. And Shen Xiuyu is left confused and frustrated, not understanding WHY she's so afraid of him. The reader knows why but he doesn't, and that gap in understanding is going to drive so much of the story forward. I can already tell this isn't going to be a simple romance — there's a mystery at the center of it, and I need to know what happened to Shen Xiuyu between now and his downfall.
