The beginning of the story is good, but I can't follow the line. The author does not have enough knowledge of English to clarify who is who. Or the translation is very bad.
He and she are always confused. I couldn't get past chapter 4.
The dialogue in this novel is absolutely razor-sharp, and I want to highlight why it's so effective. Let's start with Gu Ruanci. Her lines are sparse but devastating. 'Zhou Qingran is long dead. And Mother—you won't be seeing her either.' That's it. Two sentences, and she's drawn a line so final it could slice steel. There's no screaming, no dramatic monologue—just cold, precise language that conveys ten years of pain in a single breath. This is a character who has learned that words are weapons, and she wields them with surgical precision. Zhou Yuzhi, on the other hand, is all noise. His entire speech at the gate is a rambling cascade of accusations and demands. 'Where is she? When she left, she claimed she didn't want her maternal family or her sons. Why does she lack the courage to show herself now?' He's so busy performing his superiority that he never stops to actually listen. His dialogue reveals everything about his character: insecure, proud, and utterly blind to his own hypocrisy. Ye Lanxin's dialogue is perhaps the most interesting because it's all performance. 'What happened back then was indeed my fault toward my sister. I never expected she would be so intolerant of me...' She's crafting a narrative in real-time, positioning herself as the forgiving victim while simultaneously painting Lady Ye and Qingran as the villains. Every word is calculated. Every pause is strategic. She's not having a conversation—she's directing a play, and everyone else is an extra in her scene. The narrator's voice is equally distinctive. It's observant without being intrusive, witty without being flippant. Lines like 'Ye Lanxin concealed all her smugness and pretended to be anxious as she followed' tell us exactly what's happening without needing to spell it out. The author trusts the reader to connect the dots, and that respect for the audience's intelligence is what makes the dialogue feel so alive.
The story is so fresh and Amazing. I love the characters and the beginning.... *screams* can't wait to see what happens next. More chapters please
