This one got me from the very first chapter.. I have a thing for morally grey men and I just found a new one to love… I cannot wait to find out what happens next and how it happens. If love was a book, I would be chasing this one down.
Intriguing had me at the first chapter
I need to be honest with you all—I literally sat in my room crying for ten minutes after reading the warehouse scene. Not the courtroom. Not the livestream. The warehouse. The quiet, trembling moment when Wang Fang pulls that USB drive from her chest like it's a grenade and hands it over. Let me rewind because the emotional architecture of this section is insane. It starts with Lin Wanwan's courtroom fury—that righteous, escalating anger where she hurls question after question at Li Jianguo. "Is it relevant that because I earned eight million, I must not receive a single cent?" That's not just legal strategy. That's a human being screaming after years of being told to smile and say thank you while being treated like furniture. I felt that in my bones. Then it pivots from anger to something far more fragile. The twelve artists standing up—some through tears, some through gritted teeth, some unable to speak at all. The author doesn't give us their full stories. Just their presence. Just their bodies rising one by one like flowers pushing through concrete. And Lin Wanwan's response? She doesn't give a speech. She just hugs a young girl and says nothing. That silence is louder than any monologue. And then Wang Fang. God, Wang Fang. Her voice trembling as she describes her husband's breakdowns—waking up drenched in sweat, refusing to talk, getting angry when she pressed him. The love between them isn't expressed through grand gestures. It's expressed through a wife who finally says: I will carry this fear so he doesn't have to carry it alone. The moment that destroyed me was when she laughed through her tears—an ugly laugh, the text literally says—and said "It's not that I believe in you. It's that I believe this thing can bring justice that his money can't buy." Justice that money can't buy. After everything Li Jianguo has done, after the contracts, the storage rooms, the forced drinks, the eight-million-yuan exploitation—there's still something he can't purchase. And that realization? That's what made me put the book down and stare at the ceiling.
The previous remarks provide a decent overview of the book's nature. However, I disagree with the notion that if you enjoyed "Ex Rank Supporting Role's Replay in a Prestigious School," you'll automatically enjoy this novel, and vice versa. Personally, I didn't appreciate the "Ex Rank" aspect, and for those who share my sentiment, it's evident that these two stories have significantly divergent approaches. This novel begins with the protagonist lacking both knowledge of the plot and powerful abilities; they must employ strategy to uncover and manipulate events, whereas "Ex Rank" appears more like an exercise in showcasing powers to me.
The translation feels somewhat abrupt. Initially, the story shows promise, but my interest dwindles halfway through. A key factor is the lack of depth in the plot development. In one chapter, the main characters encounter a ghost, and the issue is neatly resolved in the subsequent one. It might be suitable for a quick, light read, but the pacing becomes monotonous when events unfold too rapidly, causing boredom to set in swiftly.
Initial Review:
Having only read three chapters, I'm already smitten! The protagonist is a humanized system bound to a "save the villain" system, inheriting the fluffy, affection-seeking nature typical of those entities. He's a mix of silly and adorable, yet not entirely innocent; by Chapter 3, he's already contemplating "physical intimacy" as a way to redeem the villain's image. I find this quirky and daring MC intriguing – he seems to recall a previous host who enjoyed such activities, eagerly anticipating them himself!
The male lead appears to be a sickly, obsessive character based on what I've seen so far, earning a solid 10/10 from me. I'll update this review later. The translation quality is impressive too!
Edit after 40 chapters:
I never imagined this novel would delve so vividly into themes of depression and healing. Yes, the ML's motivations might seem twisted, but that's precisely what draws me in! I find it beautiful and thought-provoking, though others might perceive it differently.
The translation remains top-notch, and I adore the writing style. I don't find the MC cringeworthy; personally, I find him adorable, proactive, and deeply caring. He goes above and beyond to address ML's issues and expresses his love through actions. To me, he's anything but a man child; he's genuine and sincere, always striving for healthy communication, thanks to his straightforward personality. His cheerfulness doesn't equate to immaturity – though everyone's perspective differs, these are my thoughts.
Additionally, it turns out that MC genuinely enjoys physical intimacy and kissing – a pleasant surprise!

My honest opinion after reading through all off it within a week:
The beginning feels kind of odd to read, not sure how to describe it. I think in terms of how the romance developed, it felt kind of out of nowhere. I think the plot was interesting enough in the way that while it follows a traditional regression/isekai and defeat the demon king plot point, the plot twists and story points were interesting enough for me to continue reading beyond the beginning.
I do kind of think that more character development could have been used for the side characters. The entire cast has their own individual uniqueness but nothing outstanding or underwhelming either.
Furthermore, compared to other romance light novels, it’s relatively short and simple which results in little to no beating around the bush with starting to develop the relationship between fem mc and male mc. But this is only in comparison to others as aforementioned.
Overall: Solid 5/10. Easy to read after beginning.
I read this novel a long time ago and I have no idea where I was or what was going on… guess I’ll start again and see why I stopped ?
