Wow! All the twists and turns! This book instantly grabbed my attention and held on all the way through. I found myself completely enthralled with the characters and the actions they took. I would definitely recommend this book to all my friends!

There's so much symbolism packed into these chapters and I'm still processing it all. The Gu insect first. The Offspring Gu of the Life-Death Gu was her way of controlling him, of keeping him bound to her. When she extracts it, she's not just removing a parasite—she's removing the last chain. "Now I can no longer threaten your life." But in doing so, she sets him free to choose. And he chooses to run. The moonlight is everywhere. It's cold and distant and beautiful—just like Yuyi Yue to him. "She's the moonlight he cannot covet." That's basically the thesis of the whole novel. She's something he can see but never hold. And then there's the courtyard itself. It's desolate, broken, abandoned. But she's renovating it. She's making it a home. Meanwhile, Fang Xun'gui is the opposite—a man who's whole on the outside but completely hollow inside. He has no courtyard. No home. No future. The line that haunts me: "He was merely a blade that should have been broken long ago." A blade's purpose is to cut and be discarded. That's all he's ever been. But she treats him like treasure. And that's the most terrifying thing of all—because if he's not just a blade, then what is he? And if he's something more, then what does he deserve? The poison on the silver boxes is another symbol I can't stop thinking about. She's protecting her wealth with death, but she's also vulnerable. She doesn't understand the world's cruelty. And he—someone who lives in that cruelty—can't stop worrying about her. This novel is about people who are broken trying to build something whole. And the tragedy is that they keep pulling away from each other.
