If you are looking for a good read this is the book!
it's a good story but I think you are dragging it
My favorite of all!!! I never moved on from this, and reread it but still couldn’t get enough! It would have really been nice to have read the story of their little ones and all but Ashley And Blake forever ............
are we getting any updates today ?
I need to talk about the candied hawthorn scene because it's the most emotionally efficient moment in this entire chapter and I'm not even being dramatic. Four wen. That's all it costs. Two skewers for five wen, they buy four for ten. It's such a small thing but the author manages to pack so much into it. Yan Zihao suggests buying it. Lu Qingran initially refuses—she doesn't even like it, finds it too sour. But she accepts it because it's his gesture. And then she offers him a bite. He eats from the same spot where she already bit into it. Think about what that means. In ancient China, sharing food like that isn't nothing. It's intimate in a way that doesn't need to be romantic to be meaningful. They're two people who barely know each other, navigating this arranged marriage situation, and here they are sharing a ten-wen piece of street food like it's some grand romantic gesture. And the narration says something that absolutely got me: Yan Zihao finds this version of his wife 'quite adorable.' Adorable. Not beautiful, not elegant—adorable. He's seeing her fall asleep in a chair, drooling slightly, unable to hold her head up. And instead of finding it annoying or inconvenient, he finds it endearing. That's not just kindness, that's the beginning of genuine affection. The contrast between the sour hawthorn and the sweetness of the moment is perfect. Life with this guy is going to be like that candied hawthorn—sometimes painfully sour, sometimes unexpectedly sweet, but always worth sharing. Also can we talk about how Lu Qingran's internal monologue reveals her own feelings? She's from a modern background, she's used to walking tens of thousands of steps a day, and yet she falls asleep in a chair after one day of ancient life. There's something vulnerable and human about that. She's not some invincible transmigration protagonist. She's tired. She's adjusting. And Yan Zihao sees all of it and still chooses to be gentle. This is the kind of slow-burn romance that doesn't need grand declarations. It's in the small things. The carrying-to-bed moments. The shared hawthorn. The quiet 'be careful' when she walks a few steps away.
