I just love it. For instance the romance between Imogen and Maze. Can't wait for them to be more than what they are now
Okay so let me just say—Qi Wuyang is the most manipulative person I have ever encountered in fiction and I am HERE for it. The whole setup where he tells Xu Songhe his spiritual power is weakened and he can't even run is just... chef's kiss. He's stringing her along like a puppet master and she's falling for every single bit of it. But then the barrier breaks and suddenly they're running for their lives and she's the one making the actual decisions. That's the plot twist I didn't see coming—she's not the damsel at all, she's the one throwing snowballs and creating diversions while he watches with his arms crossed like a cat observing a mouse trap. The part where he literally offers her his head for the bounty is also unhinged in the best way. Like bro, are you testing her or are you just genuinely that detached from self-preservation? And her response—applying medicine to his wound instead of taking the money—is such a perfect character beat. The plot keeps these two orbiting each other like gravitational bodies, neither willing to commit to being hero or villain. Then Shopkeeper Yu appears and suddenly there's another layer. The system confirms he's not a monster or from the Flowing Cloud Sect, but that doesn't mean anything. In this genre, the nicest-looking old man is always the most dangerous. I'm already convinced he's hiding something. The narrative is building this tension where every ally could be an enemy and I cannot stop reading.
Book is great but reaching no conclusion. For once let anyone of them know that the other's child is their own. Sometimes it gets frustrating to read.
