I need to talk about You Chumu's dialogue because it is absolutely DERANGED and I love it. "Brother, I want to use yours." — said while looking at a toothbrush. I literally screamed. The casual way he says the most unhinged things is what makes him so good. He's not being creepy on purpose. He genuinely doesn't understand why this is weird. That's what makes it so much worse. And the way he addresses everyone as "Brother" — it's so innocent on the surface but underneath it's this constant reminder that Xu Chi is now trapped in this weird familial role whether he likes it or not. You Chumu has latched onto him and the word "Brother" is both a leash and a weapon. Xu Chi's dialogue is equally fun. His internal panic versus his external calm is comedy gold. He's out here lying about sleepwalking and snoring and hitting people in his sleep, and he sounds SO CONVINCED. "Anyway, if you slept with me, you definitely wouldn't get any rest. You're injured and need to rest properly. How could I disturb you?" Bro, you just sold yourself as a danger to public safety and you're framing it as an act of kindness. I'm wheezing. The author's narrative voice is also fantastic — it's right inside Xu Chi's head, so we get this constant stream of panic, dark humor, and genuine fear. The tone balances horror and comedy so well. Like when You Chumu is laughing maniacally while poking Xu Chi's face and Xu Chi just smacks him in his sleep without even waking up. The deadpan delivery of that moment is perfect. And the dialogue between them at breakfast — You Chumu insisting Xu Chi finish his food, the forced feeding dynamic flipping back and forth. It reads like a horror movie disguised as a domestic comedy and I am HERE for it.
I initially intended for this to be a compelling narrative. I had high hopes that it would unfold into a captivating tale. It possessed all the elements for a great story: a captivating premise – why does the protagonist possess a rabbit's head? A clear objective – saving the love interest's sister. Comical sidekicks, villainy, intrigue, and a gripping setup for the climactic battle – everything seemed to be in place. However, one crucial aspect fell flat – the lack of chemistry between the lead characters.
There were subtle hints early on, but a significant plot twist spoiled the surprise: the sister's unhinged husband was abruptly eliminated offstage, without further development or resolution. His corrupt brother, once central to the story's second arc, was reduced to mere mentions in passing.
Despite being informed that Charlie took refuge with the cult leader on Paradise Island, the transition to Louis's inner-city hideout and their collaboration remained unclear. The potential for an intense third act, with the rescue of the astrologer and a rebellion against oppression, was there. The author skillfully built tension.
But then, a shocking plot deviation occurred: Charlie was suddenly transported back in time, reuniting with the love interest as a child amidst fairies in the woods. This sudden detour, inspired by Alice in Wonderland, felt completely out of place, especially considering it happened after 80% of the book, just as the villain was defeated and the readers were eagerly awaiting the conclusion. The story abruptly stopped at its climax to explore this new direction, and when Charlie returned, five years had passed! The events in White Bridge and the fates of other characters were left unresolved, leaving the reader frustrated.
The engaging writing almost carried me through until that point, which is why my disappointment was greater. My advice: keep an eye on the author, as they show promise in crafting individual scenes. Perhaps their next work will demonstrate improved storytelling and be worth a read. For now, this particular story fell short due to its messy plot progression.
Very good story. I like the way the author focused on the importance of environmental sustainability and protection. Learned names of new types of flowers and plants as well. Loved the innocent love story of the characters. ❤️❤️
Sad for this novel, but since the author announced his 3rd novel, he completely abandoned this one, in a few months (more than 3/4 months) there are less than 30 chapters added, and the worst if these chapters were well worked, why not, but this is complete rubbish, chapters of less than 1000 words, and even worse is the content, the author accelerates the events too much, and when he don't do it, it's for completely useless things...
In short, for me I would never touch any of these novels again, there's nothing I hate more than these people who don't finish their work T.T
This story is very thrilling for me if anyone has similar genre to this let me know I'm totally invested especially if it's updating still. I like how zhou zhou is kind to those around him but cold blooded towards thoughs against him. I especially like how he is towards his pets.
