Abuse isn't sexy. Found this to be extremely disturbing and gross.

The oxidized pear thing. Let me just sit with that for a second. Huo Shengbai takes the fork away because the pear flesh has turned reddish-brown from oxidation. He won't let her eat it. He peels a fresh one. He even takes the old pieces away so she won't try to eat them again. On the surface it's just a detail about him being meticulous and caring. But read it alongside everything else happening to Wen Zhili and it hits differently. She's been framed with a 'medical record' showing she has STDs—her body, her reputation, literally oxidized and ruined in the eyes of everyone around her. And meanwhile Huo Shengbai is protecting her from a piece of fruit that changed color. The irony is almost too much. The world says her reputation is spoiled, but the man who actually cares about her is making sure she doesn't eat something slightly discolored. Then there's the three hundred yuan. The pimp throws it at her feet like it's nothing. The class group chat owner asks 'how much she charges per night, anything over 300 is too expensive.' Three hundred becomes this recurring number—a price tag that everyone wants to put on her. Her body, her dignity, her name, all reduced to a transaction. And the high heel. She takes it off to beat the pimp. A symbol of her femininity, her elegance, her class—weaponized. She's not just fighting back; she's turning everything the world uses to judge her into a weapon. The hair cascading down while she fights—beauty and violence together, unapologetic.
I’m glad I have this book a chance! I couldn’t put it down until I was at the last update. I really like the plot and story so far, I can’t wait for more.
Loved this book and the sequel especially!!! So well written, it made me fall in love with these characters, laugh out loud at their comments, cry like a baby for their struggles and loss. Such a good story...
This book had everything I was so mad at one point i had to put it down, so disappointed he just left her there. Your books always illicit such strong emotions and the characters are so well developed flaws and all. I want to read more but I know I must be ready for the whole gamut of emotions
