There's this one line that keeps echoing in my head: "Money can make even ghosts turn millstones." Concubine Yun says it so casually, like it's just a fact of life. But it's really the thesis statement for everything happening in these chapters. The whole rumor scheme is built on the idea that public attention is a commodity. You can't just erase a scandal — you have to drown it in something bigger. The teahouses and taverns become the stage where this theater plays out. Storytellers aren't just entertaining; they're weapons. And the fact that they're paid to create chaos about OTHER noble families is the ultimate irony — the Gu household is using the very system that destroyed Gu Qinglian's reputation to destroy everyone else's instead. Reputation itself is this fragile, performative thing in the novel. Gu Qinglian's "wicked, unforgivable" label existed only because people believed it. Once the narrative shifted, she was just... forgotten. The old noble families in the capital have "stood firm for years" not because they're morally superior, but because they understand the game. They know that scandal is just entertainment, and entertainment can be manufactured. There's also this recurring theme of legitimacy vs. illegitimacy that runs through everything. Gu Yuanyao's entire crisis in court is framed around his "blurred lines between legitimate and illegitimate children." The ministers are attacking him not just for his daughter's actions, but for the structural illegitimacy of his household. And Concubine Yun's scheme to marry Gu Qinglian to the Crown Prince is an attempt to launder that illegitimacy through royal blood. The novel is really asking: what makes someone legitimate? Is it blood? Is it power? Or is it just who controls the story?

I am getting tired of only getting 3 or ,4 chapters only 5 or 10 minutes worth of READING.

Intriguing storyline with lots of twists, this book gets straight into the drama in the first chapter! If you’re wanting to read a great book, this is it! Author Muse - Dahlia is my favourite female character of yours so far! I’m loving Dane too, what a cool bond they have :)
