I'm currently on chapter 12... Honestly, I feel bad for the original villain....
He was constantly getting betrayed, used, and abused. It's like, bro... is it any wonder why he turned dark? Why he wants revenge? And then, out of nowhere, our transmigrator main character (MC) just possesses his body and plans to take it without a second thought, kicking out the original owner or apparently destroying his soul. Then, all of a sudden, a wild golden-finger system appears??? I don't know about you, but I want a proper side story for the poor original villain who got betrayed left, right, and center, and then literally had his body stolen by the MC and a system... Now, I don't know if the original villain is truly dead, but I'm hoping later chapters allow him to be reincarnated or something.
Imagine this:
Imagine you're a person from a good family, minding your own business, and suddenly some guys plot against you, stab you in the back, try to kill you, and then some snake guy shows up to poison you with some aphrodisiac pregnancy medicine, demanding that you birth an heir for him. WHO WOULDN'T WANT ULTIMATE REVENGE? But before you can even enact that vengeance, you get betrayed once again by your new subordinates and your "best friend" AGAIN, and just when you think it can't get any worse... some dude and a system transmigrate into your body, destroy your soul, and go on their way....
Since I'm still not too far in, I'll refrain from saying anything about the plot holes...

Update: I'm on chapter 24, and the male lead (ML) is cute lol, but I still don't like the MC; his hypocritical side is starting to show... Usually, with Chinese novels, the smut is very censored, but I was surprised to see it wasn't in these couple of chapters... It's even detailed lol. I must say.... the smut is (͡º˵ ل͟ ͡º˵) hehe not bad *Chef's kiss*

While the story holds its own when compared to the current status quo, the translations by Cardboard are more like interpretations, with many sentences starting with "oh shits" and ending with "god damns," with F-bombs used more frequently than in World War II. It seems like a 12-year-old punk trying to sound funny, and I doubt the original text contains such excessive swearing.
The plot has potential, but the level of detail is lacking when it comes to character development, settings, and descriptions. It feels as if the author assumes the reader is familiar with the background, which results in fight scenes that sometimes read almost like step-by-step instructions instead of immersive descriptions.
This would be commendable if it weren't marred by the underlying misogyny. It's not about her success; rather, she supports her husband's rise, yet he takes all the credit. Her sister-in-law is portrayed as foolish and condescending, and plot developments seem arbitrary. She's reduced to a mere ornament or breeding ground, which is unjust.
Alas, AlmostGolden hit the nail on the head. Despite the occasional glimmer of greed, the setting is supposedly rural China in the 1980s, which adds an odd layer.
I must admit that I did finish the story out of sheer anger, but I was left unsatisfied. Let me clarify, I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated.
Reading it was such a nauseating experience that it affected my well-being. It even made me lose count of how many times I wanted to stop. Disgusting.
