She's a ghost in this story — a presence felt through documents and memories and the reactions of everyone around her. But that one handwritten note? That's her voice. That's her love. And Shen Nian's reaction to it is so restrained. She doesn't cry. She doesn't scream. She just says "Dead people don't leave something like this behind for me." And then she carefully puts it away. The emotional restraint makes it hit harder. Also the Shen Yanzhou moment — when he rushes into the burning archive room without taking off his suit, panic on his face, and says "Have you lost your mind?" That's not just sibling concern. That's someone who's been carrying guilt for twenty-three years and finally has a chance to make it right. And Shen Nian's response to the family when they all discover she's Zero? "Then why didn't it matter yesterday... when all of you left me standing outside the front door?" Oof. That line destroys me every time. It's not about the cyber skills. It's about belonging. It's about being seen. The emotional arc here is Shen Nian going from someone who wants the truth to someone who's fighting for a person. Her mother isn't dead. She's imprisoned. And that changes everything about what's at stake.

I had no idea this gem existed! If I were aware earlier, I would have devoured it much sooner. Currently, I'm obsessed with infrastructure and kingdom-building novels, and this one ranks as my third favorite so far. Before diving in, I meticulously examined reviews to gauge its worth, despite potential spoilers. Surprisingly, my reading mood oscillates wildly – high, low, up, down, and back up again – yet I still found this book captivating.
What sets this novel apart from others I've read is its ability to evoke deep emotions in every storyline. The love, loyalty, pain, sorrow, even the stark contrast between positive and negative feelings, are masterfully portrayed. Most impressive of all, the main character's unwavering patience in accepting love resonates deeply with readers. This truly is an extraordinary literary experience.
To be honest, this book was quite unengaging. It's a pity because the concept had promise, but it ends up being a squandered opportunity. The writing style resembles EU4 or CK After Action Reports, yet those games' engaging narratives and well-developed stories are lacking here. There are no profound conversations, character growth, or compelling characters; instead, it's a tedious recital of events and battles that lack excitement. It seems the author aimed for a war narrative, but unfortunately, it falls flat.
While I might not enjoy it and wouldn't suggest it as a time filler, I encourage you to read it yourself and form your own opinion on whether it suits your tastes.

Tbh, when he first appeared in the Hertan territory, I thought he can be an ally... well that perspective changed real quick!... But the author keeps bringing him right after crucial chapters where Yuder and Kishiar are having meaningful conversations or cute moments...this is what makes his appearance even more unbearable to me ??
