The pacing in these chapters is absolutely ruthless and I respect it so much. Let me walk through how the author builds this. Chapter starts with what feels like a domestic scene — Jiang Xingzhou watching Feng Yi from the shadows, remembering how he orchestrated her move to the Rose Pavilion. There's heat and tension and this delicious push-and-pull between them. The monthly flow scene is almost comedic in its tension — she's deliberately avoiding him, he's calling her bluff, and the banter is sharp and funny. Then the morning-after scene with the ginger pouch shifts the tone completely into something tender and aching. We're still in this intimate, almost cozy space. Then — and this is where the author is a monster — they leave. The journey north. Qingfeng calling her Madam. A brief, almost casual conversation about the marriage that had no witnesses and no certificate. She's calm, almost detached. We think: okay, this is a travel chapter, we're moving toward something. And then Ziyuan Temple. The atmosphere shifts immediately — mist, overcast sky, worn stone steps. The pace slows down. Every sentence feels heavier. Jiang Xingzhou climbing those steps, imagining her doing it three years ago, the dull ache in his chest. The temple is quiet, almost dreamlike. Master Hebai and his go game — this could be any quiet moment in any story. And then: "Ten years of her lifespan." Clack. The white stone slips. That's the entire climax of sixty-plus pages of emotional buildup, and it lands in two words and a sound effect. The author doesn't linger on Jiang Xingzhou's reaction. Doesn't give us a monologue or a breakdown. Just a stone rolling into a dead-end position and a heart plunged into boiling water. Then the chapter ends. This is how you write a cliffhanger that isn't a cliffhanger at all — it's an emotional landmine, and the reader is the one who steps on it.
Landing on the floor, it cleaved one of the enemies in half, who was standing right beneath it without knowing. From there, the beast began slashing through the enemy lines with its vicious claws. For every single swing of its talon, at the least two men and women in arms fell on the bloodied ground, with their bodies torn off pieces to pieces. Poly-mails would prove to be useless against its fury; the claws were extremely sharp, each like a fine tech-sword, and their master was skillful in arts of combat. Without a moment to rest, the rampaging beast went on slaughtering its foe. The ferocity of the monster, along with its terrifying holograms, made the once-proud soldiers of the Empire scatter like a flock of lambs, without their master nor savior. Their lines were completely broken. All that was left to the beast-woe to the souls of its remaining foes!-was to finish up its work of butchery, by means of spilling more guts and marrow.
