I need to just sit with this for a moment because the Feng Buji character development in these chapters is absolutely brutal. We get these flashbacks to their childhood — him teasing her on the training grounds, then going to the furthest district to buy her jujube paste yam cakes just to make her stop crying. Public proposal. Betrothal gifts that nearly broke down the gate. This man once loved her with this much... what was it? Devotion? Possession? Both? And now? Now he kicks her ten meters across the ground. Now he looks at her with 'cold, disgusted gaze.' Now he imprisons her father on fabricated evidence because some woman whispered in his ear. The relationship between Feng Buji and Xiao Mingyue is the backbone of this entire story and the author is absolutely eviscerating it chapter by chapter. What makes it hurt so much is that we KNOW what they had. The flashbacks aren't just nostalgia — they're evidence of what was destroyed. But here's what's really interesting: Feng Buji isn't just a cartoon villain. He genuinely believes he's doing the right thing. He thinks HIS child was killed. He thinks his father has betrayed the nation. His rage has logic — flawed, manipulated logic, but logic nonetheless. That's what makes him dangerous and that's what makes him tragic. And Hua Heng — oh my god, Hua Heng. The scene where she's embracing Feng Buji by the river, flying kites, looking 'entirely cheerful and content' while Xiao Mingyue's father is rotting in prison? That's not just evil. That's performative evil. She's playing a role and she's good at it. The dynamic between all three of them creates this terrible triangle where every interaction is layered with deception. Feng Buji thinks he's protecting Hua Heng. Hua Heng is using him to complete her mission. Xiao Mingyue is fighting both of them with nothing but the truth, which isn't enough.

Really good book. I wonder if there is a sequel to it. I would love to know about the goddess. Also too much coins for each chapter
