Great book
My absolute favourite ...
Chu Nanyu's dialogue is basically one word answers and I'm obsessed with it. "Habit." "Sometimes." "Occasionally." "Mm." "Alright." "Goodnight." The man has the emotional range of a teaspoon and yet every single one of those clipped responses is loaded with meaning. When Tan Qinyin asks if he sleepwalks to the bathroom or hallway and he says "Occasionally" — that's not just information, that's him admitting he's been avoiding her bed for days and he's too proud to say it directly. The dialogue between these two is fascinating because it's so asymmetrical. She talks more, asks more questions, initiates more. He responds minimally. But the author makes his silence feel like dialogue. When she says "It seems your health isn't that great after all" and he just sighs? That's a whole conversation in one punctuation mark. And then there's the hospital scene where he actually opens up: "Yinyin, I didn't want it to be like this. Don't be angry with me, okay?" This is the most words he's said in an entire chapter and it hits different BECAUSE it's rare. The author earned this moment by making him say so little everywhere else. He Wenzhou's dialogue is the perfect contrast though — "Speak properly" from Chu Nanyu and "I'd be sad if you forgot me" from He Wenzhou in the same scene. The author uses side characters' voices to highlight how different Chu Nanyu is. He Wenzhou is all flourish and warmth; Chu Nanyu is all restraint. That contrast makes both of them more distinct.

Well what can I say about this book? It has a lot going on. From repetitive chapters to incomplete sentences. As well as some chapters not making sense. It literally jumps all over the place. But all and all it’s an ok read.

The narrative was compelling, effectively addressing plot points, and above all, it had a heartwarming touch. Both the main character (MC) and the male lead (ML) were endearing, with their interactions being enjoyable to read. The slap scenes were kept within moderation, which was a refreshing change from typical transmigration or rebirth stories where such occurrences are often excessive.
The supporting characters were likable too, and I appreciated how the ML didn't fall for the MC blindly or illogically. What was interesting was that, unlike many typical scenarios where the ML falls for the MC upon discovering they're human, in this story, the revelation came later, after the ML learned the truth about MC's identity. This deviation from the norm added an intriguing dynamic.
Regarding the relationship between non-humanoids and humans, while I understand that everyone's preferences vary, I found some depictions involving animalistic attractions or affection towards plants to be unconventional. However, I could accept it as a unique aspect or a humorous take, especially when it wasn't portrayed as the sole basis for the relationship.
In summary, this was a delightful read overall. The storytelling, character development, and unique approach made it stand out in its genre.
I've gone through the MTL version, and it's quite repetitive. The plot follows a formula:
1. The MC discovers a destined child.
2. They visit the setting where the destiny begins.
3. The system reveals the overarching plot to the MC.
4. MC's thoughts unintentionally reach the heroine, often making her perceive them positively.
5. The heroine becomes attracted to the MC, despite their initial encounters (or sometimes due to past events), and they end up in a romantic situation quickly.
6. The cycle repeats as the MC encounters more "sons of destiny."
The story lacks depth in character development and meaningful growth between the MC and heroine. It feels like the author introduces new characters without fully exploring their relationships. The MC's harem-seeking nature is excessive, and his attraction to women seems shallow. The 'yandere' tag is misleading; there's no true yandere element in the story.
While it's an okay read to pass the time, I'd only recommend it if you're short on options. The translation is decent, but the story itself is just average.
