Let's discuss Zhao Ming because this man is a legend in the worst possible way and I cannot stop thinking about him. "Senior Brother Wang, that monster has been chasing me; I can't beat it, hurry and smash it for me." He says this. Right before a giant beast erupts from the ground behind Wang Teng. The audacity. The sheer unadulterated gall. This guy looked at a Late Foundation Establishment realm monster and decided the best strategy was to weaponize his teammate's sense of brotherhood. And it WORKED. Wang Teng fell for it completely. I was laughing so hard I almost choked. The dialogue throughout these chapters is surprisingly sharp. Most of the academy disciples sound like they were written by the same person — all generic cultivation novel bro energy — but Zhao Ming has this distinctly chaotic voice that makes him instantly memorable. Even his panting dialogue feels characterful: "Senior Brother Wang, this place is far too dangerous; how about we join forces?" — said while actively leading Wang Teng into a trap. The subtext is screaming. Meanwhile Ning Bei's dialogue is delightfully understated. "Clumsy tricks." when his system warns him about the rumor scheme. That's it. That's the whole reaction. He's in a death trial and his response to political maneuvering is a two-word dismissal. The contrast between his calm voice and everyone else's panic is what makes the scene pop.

Wonderful book about second chances in life. Austin proved himself worthy. It made me happy that he and Lexi got the HEA they deserved. 10/10 highly recommended
