I mean so treats him like crap abandons him, then feels bad for herself because she realized that she's a horrible person, but still, even though she hasn't talked to him in years, acts like she's the one who knows everything about him and worst of all still wants to treat him as a servent!! Although I understand why the series can't find a regular translator, due to its heavy reliance on traditional Chinese spiritualism, which can be quite confusing, I find it a shame because I think this novel is really good. At least the ghost parts of it are fun and exciting.
To be honest, I found the entertainment side to be really perfunctory and underdeveloped. By the end, it felt like a burden the author was reluctantly dragging along, only used for gags. There's no exploration of Lan He's acting career, why he became interested in acting, a sense of balancing his part-time work with his main job, and even the gimmick of being able to feel the raw emotions of ghosts to enhance his acting abilities was only mentioned twice and then completely abandoned. None of his movies were given any real plots, and all chapters about him on set and filming were mostly just to introduce new supernatural cases.
Although I still give this five stars, the entertainment/acting aspect of this novel was really poor. However, the mystery-solving cases, the author's clear interest in and dedication to properly explaining Taoism and Buddhism, and the diverse ghost and spirit characters are all really engaging and well-written. The romance is also relaxed and low-key, which is exactly the type I prefer—no domineering, cringe-inducingly jealous male lead. In the end, I still recommend it.
The character MC serves as the textbook example of a dense, clueless, and frightened protagonist when it comes to romance and jealousy (NTR) in your typical doujin story. He's already experienced NTR once with his best friend, yet remains unaware. This time, he won't fall victim because the teacher, an intense and cunning Yandere, outsmarts the antagonist and detects his manipulations. As MC sits obliviously in the back, he'll only become aware if there's direct evidence or if the teacher encounters a violent confrontation, as the antagonist threatens to forcefully take her.
Despite MC's somewhat one-dimensional nature that brings the novel down to a 3 out of 5, the portrayal of the obsessive, manipulative teacher trying to ensnare him adds a layer of intrigue and drives the plot forward. However, I must admit I'm not a fan of scenes involving sleep drugs.

The "rape" tag is a serious matter, and I'll discuss character development later. This story is set in an Omegaverse-inspired world, where alphas appear to lack self-control around the omega protagonist. Thankfully, the author does not use this as an excuse for the main characters' (MLs) terrible behavior. The first ML is portrayed as a despicable individual, who viciously rapes a former saint until she dies. In his perspective, her doll-like demeanor and appearance fueled his sexual violence, as he sought to break her facade and provoke a human response from her. He despises how the saint seemed emotionless, yet treats all of them without empathy.
The original female lead (OG FL) actually dies during one of these brutal sexual encounters. The ML finds the act disgusting because he was interacting with a dead body, but he doesn't seem to feel remorse for taking a life.
Frankly, I'm not a fan of this genre with explicit sexual violence or non-consensual elements. However, I continued reading because I had strong negative feelings towards the ML and hoped for a plot twist where she escapes him, causing him profound suffering. I was looking for some form of redemption or growth for the character, but it doesn't seem like that's the focus of this novel.
In this Omegaverse context, the MC's body is biologically inclined to desire the alphas, even if she fears them or rejects the objectification. It leaves me uncertain if she will genuinely want to leave this situation in the long run.
Regarding plot and character development, there isn't much beyond the central theme of the MLs trying to control the MC. The story appears to revolve around their desires, acting mostly as a backdrop for the sexual content.
The tale of "Illicit Relationship" captivated me with its intricate web of forbidden love and moral dilemmas. The characters, complex and enthralling, left me on the edge of my seat as their secret affair unraveled against a backdrop of societal norms. The author's deft storytelling evoked a rollercoaster of emotions, making it a compelling read that kept me hooked until the very end. Though the ethical exploration was thought-provoking, I couldn't help but root for their tempestuous journey, despite its risky nature. A compelling and engrossing novel that delves into the depths of human desires and consequences.
