I keep thinking about the tape recorder in this passage and what it represents, because it's honestly one of the most powerful symbols I've encountered in recent reading. On the surface, it's just evidence. Han Xiaorui records Zhang Xiufang's threats and plays them back for the police. But symbolically, the tape recorder represents something much deeper — it's the weapon of the powerless. Han Xiaorui is a divorced woman in a fishing village with no family backing her, no husband, no money. The only way she can fight back against a woman like Zhang Xiufang, who has decades of social capital and community influence, is through documentation. Through proof. The tape recorder is her voice multiplied. When Zhang Xiufang curses and threatens, the recorder captures every word. When the police arrive and Han Xiaorui presses play, Zhang Xiufang's own voice becomes the evidence against her. The woman who relied on gossip and reputation suddenly finds herself trapped by her own recorded words. There's something almost poetic about that. And then there's the lawyer's recorder — Chen Nanyang playing the tape for Yang Jianguo's colleagues at the university. The same recording that was meant to protect Han Xiaorui becomes a weapon that destroys Yang Jianguo's career prospects. The tape travels. It spreads. It outlives the moment it was recorded. The deeper theme here is about how the rules of society can be weaponized. Han Xiaorui doesn't fight with fists or screams — she fights with law, with procedure, with lawyers and police reports. She enters the system on its own terms and wins. 'This was not a post-apocalyptic world where only the strong survived without rules; here, there were laws, ethics, and social expectations that constrained Zhang Xiufang, Han Xiaorui, and everyone else.' This line is basically the thesis statement of the entire passage. The yellow croakers themselves are symbolic too — proof of her capability, her hard work, her independence. Seven hundred jin of fish that she caught alone. The villagers who saw it with their own eyes become witnesses. The fish are tangible evidence in a world full of rumors.

Story took way too long to complete. Also, too many typos, grammatical errors, abduction descriptions too repetitive & vague. Writing needed to be tighter. Dialogue sounds like it was written at a middle school level. Not a book I would recommend in it's current form.
