There's a scene in chapter 12 where Cheng Youyou is boiling herbs in a stone pot over a campfire and the description is so vivid I could literally smell it through the page. The text says the "refreshing scent of the plants turned bitter under the flames" and that for beastfolk with sensitive noses, it was "pure torture." Even Cheng Youyou herself couldn't help but wear "a expression of a martyr" while staring at the bubbling brown liquid. I love how the author uses smell as a worldbuilding tool throughout these chapters. Beastfolk clearly have heightened senses—their noses can detect things humans can't, which is why the herbal medicine is so punishing for them. But it also means scents carry emotional weight. When Mu Feng notices Cheng Youyou's smell has changed from "unbearable stench mixed with faint woody fragrance" to a "rich, pleasant aroma" that envelops her completely, it's not just a sensory detail—it's a plot point. No beastman can change their scent that quickly, which is how he KNOWS something has shifted. The riverside scene is another standout. Midday, once-lively, now deserted because most of the strong males have been taken by Ji Xuan. The few females remaining are washing hides and gossiping, and the atmosphere is thick with judgment and tension. Zuo Wa's wooden stick slipping from her hand and floating away in the clear river—that image stuck with me. It's such a small detail but it perfectly captures how shaken she is when she realizes Mu Feng is actually FOLLOWING Cheng Youyou. And the cave itself! The stone bed, the fire pit, the hide skirt, the polished river stones Cheng Youyou repurposed as a pot. Every object tells a story about this world's resourcefulness. These people don't have fancy cookware—they make do. The fact that Cheng Youyou is now cooking stew and curing meat and brewing medicine in a cave that was previously just a place where she suffered? That's transformation rendered in physical space.

I am thoroughly enjoying the narrative; I managed to devour over 100 chapters without a break. The translation has been exceptional thus far, with no glaring errors or awkward phrases that caught my attention.
The pacing strikes a perfect balance, steadily advancing the main character's (MC) system development every few chapters. Battles have been well-paced, even when stretched across multiple installments, never feeling unnecessarily drawn out.
Although the MC seems to have experienced some fortunate coincidences involving third parties, the motivations behind these events are adequately explained and make sense, so it doesn't come across as contrived. The slow apocalypse setting offers intrigue, as it promises answers unlike many other apocalyptic tales I've encountered. However, the gradual progression of the event seems inconsistent with what we've seen so far.
Character-wise, there hasn't been much depth yet, but the MC's concern for his parents and early introduction of his deceased girlfriend hint at future interactions and a chance to explore his personality more.
Overall, I'm looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds and delving deeper into the MC's character development.
