Okay so let me just say this: the Soul Ferryman is honestly the most relatable character I've read in a long time. A guy who studied for thirty years just to get a dead-end government job in the underworld, who complains about performance metrics and smiling service requirements, who gets paid in Hell Bank Notes with a two-hundred-thousand mortgage... bro is literally me on a Monday. And Yu Miaomiao? She's this utterly ordinary twenty-two-year-old who just wants to live her life, and somehow ends up sharing a bed with the ghost assigned to reap her soul. The dynamic between them is everything. What I love is how their relationship develops through the most mundane details. He's been living in her house for half a month without her knowing. He knows she snores, grinds her teeth, and rolls on top of him in her sleep. He bribed her dog with two cans of dog food and now the dog is basically his ally. These tiny details make their cohabitation feel so real and domestic, which is wild considering one of them is a ghost and the other is literally scheduled to die in three days. The parallel between them is what got me though. Both of them are stuck in jobs they didn't choose, both are exhausted by bureaucratic nonsense, both are kind of failing at life in their own way. He says being human isn't interesting, but then he can't bring himself to quit his ghost job either. She's about to die and all she can think about is finding a good home for her dog. They're both just... trying their best in absurd circumstances. That moment where they sit on the sofa together, both burying their heads in their hands, complaining about work—that's the most honest depiction of two tired souls I've ever read.

It's a beautiful story with the right dose of humour, I didn't want to put it down!
When I read the books introduction, I expected much more than was actually delivered. Not sure if the authors first language is English, but it was poorly written. When there are so many spelling and grammatical errors, it puts a person off completely. Even though the storyline had potential.
I'm falling in love with this story already
