Sorry I feel as if I wasted my time reading this book it didn’t make any sense and left the reader confused and sad. As a writer myself I would never paint a picture this confusing. Will not read another book by this author.
why bringing up this polygamy of a thing now again, it's so frustrating..
The stakes in this section are layered like a really unhinged wedding cake and I am HERE for it. On the surface, the Hua family sends poisoned cakes to kill Hua Zhiyun during exile. Simple revenge plot. But then—plot twist—the poison isn't even strong enough to kill with just one or two cakes. It only works if you eat the whole box. So Hua Zhiyun adds ANOTHER poison on top. Now one cake = death in two hours, two cakes = death while you're drinking tea. The escalation is ridiculous and I love it. Then the antidote comes into play. Madam Hua has a bottle with six pills. She thinks she's safe. Hua Zhiyun tampers with it. They take pill one—nothing. Pill two—worse. Pill three—blood from the ears. By the time they realize the antidote is useless, they've already swallowed everything. The slow reveal of the antidote failing is MASTERCLASS tension building. But the REAL stakes come from the system warnings: [You have deviated from the exile route for thirty minutes.] [Failure to comply will result in the complete deletion of your dimensional storage.] Thirty minutes. Thirty minutes to empty an entire estate, find a magical horse, ride back, and rejoin the convoy—or lose EVERYTHING she's collected. That's not just a threat, that's a ticking bomb. And then immediately after surviving that, a woman tries to stab Chu Linzhang in a prison cart. The conflict never stops. It just keeps escalating. The author knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat and I am not okay with that.
