"He saved my father, not me. Let my father marry her then!" — I need a moment. This line is EVERYTHING. It's cold, it's defiant, it's perfectly in character for someone who's been raised to respect his grandfather but has reached his absolute limit. And the fact that Grandpa Gu immediately responds with "You ungrateful brat! Disgraceful descendant!" just shows how these two have this whole dynamic where love and control are completely tangled up. The dialogue throughout these chapters is so natural I barely noticed I was reading. Each character has a distinct voice. Grandpa Gu speaks like an old man who's used to being obeyed—short, authoritative sentences, lots of rhetorical questions that aren't really questions. Kang Peiyun (the mom) has this soft, tentative quality to her speech, always hedging, always trying to mediate. Gu Qiwen mirrors her mother but with a sharper edge when she's pushing her own agenda. But the real dialogue win is in the Meng household. Zhao Meilan's line "A-Yao, is the household money we gave you still enough?" feels so authentically maternal—concerned but not overbearing. And Meng Zhihong's response about not doing anything illegal is perfect for a principled accountant father. The author doesn't need to tell us he's a good man; his dialogue does it for him. The scene where Meng Yu begs "Sis, you're the best. Please cook. I'm really hungry!" after being rude moments before—her voice shifts so quickly from entitled to manipulative. It's disgusting and believable. That's good dialogue writing right there.
I don't know if this counts as an accomplishment, but this was the first story to actively make me angry in all my years of reading. I have a soft spot for entertainment and sports stories, so when this one combined both genres, I desperately tried to like it and even continued reading beyond my initial annoyance out of sheer stubbornness to see if it would improve. Alas, I just ended up infuriated, and my last thought was, "I want a damn refund."
The beginning was actually quite good, and I didn't mind the overpowered main character (MC) from the start. In fact, I was excited—who doesn't love a track prodigy who pursued another career and then came back to excel in his original field? Up until chapter 60 or so, I genuinely had a fun time reading. The problem is that the longer it went on, the more grating the story became. The overpowered nature of the MC isn't handled very well; he's able to do too many things (running, hurdles, group relay) in such a short amount of time. As others have pointed out, all the minor characters are just there to gloat or point out how great or good-looking the MC is to an unnatural, over-the-top degree (the entire country of Japan calls him Snow Leopard Boy?? An ultra-famous fashion designer makes him his muse??). There are also pointless plot points, like the system having him train shooting skills or ice skating for no real reason except to make him look good in a few minor scenes. Even the romance aspect is lacking, as the main love interest (ML) just likes him from the start, and they interact less than a handful of times in all 143 chapters, only getting together in a chapter in one of the extras.
When you're reading a story, you'll always run into the question of "Why am I reading this?" or "Why do/should I care about the MC?" The answers are usually things like plot, characterization, mystery, etc. But this story almost kills every reason you could have. Plot? The MC gets his running and hurdling skills from the system, so it's really monotonous with no buildup. Romance? The ML and MC have little to no interaction, so the romance is almost nonexistent. Even the entertainment part can be thrown away because it focuses 99% on running, with the MC himself having no clue why he even entered the entertainment industry in the first place. He didn't want to be an actor or a singer, he didn't even care about being famous, and he's as stumped as we are as to why he switched industries in the first place. Characterization is also the same from beginning to end, so even character development is nonexistent.
I genuinely wanted to like this story, even in my annoyance, I still kept buying the next chapter in hopes of improvement. I can see that the author did try her best at writing it, but in the end, it just wasn't good for me. The more I read, the more I was absolutely bored to death by the sheer amount of repetition. Every race went: MC runs race → everyone else: "omg he's so fast, so gorgeous, who is he, I adore him, Omigosh he's like a snow leopard! An elf! A gorgeous creature!" → MC wins/breaks a record → MC adored by the masses. Maybe track stories aren't my thing, or maybe the whole rebirth extra is better, but unfortunately, I can't find any more patience to read after finishing the main story and the 10 extras. I do want to clarify something, though: after chapters 1-153, that's the end of the main story, with the rest being an "If" story where the MC decides to go down a figure skating path instead of running.
This is an amusing read, following an introverted and socially awkward character with a "sharp-tongued" personality as they pursue a romantic relationship. However, the pacing seems a bit stretched. My overall rating would be 3.5 stars.
Oooh I thought this novel would just be an op mc but these latest chapters with him outside of the planet are the best , it reminds me of Authors pov, I'm so happy I miss that novel
quuick question did the aliens get to earth already??? cuz ive been stacking until then
The novel has relatable characters and a likable main character, along with a harem theme, which I appreciate. However, my issue lies with the inadequacy of the power system. Initially, it was clearly established that all zombies possess a substance called gel that aids their evolution. The protagonist feeds this gel to his zombie girlfriend, who progresses accordingly. Then, a shift occurs, stating that advanced gels can only come from mutated zombies, which implies that the first gels were insufficient. Instead of logically gathering gels from regular zombies and enhancing one he controls, the protagonist starts actively searching for mutated ones in risky locations, despite having the means to create mutations.
This inconsistency becomes frustrating when the author later changes the rules, stating that only mutated zombies have the gels and that they evolved from consuming brains, contradicting the initial explanation. I double-checked the early chapters, but the description remains the same regarding the girlfriend's gel acquisition from regular zombies. It's baffling why the author didn't explore this method further.
Furthermore, the power system feels abstract and lacks clear progression, with underwhelming fight scenes. Given the focus on the "weak to strong" genre, this inconsistency and the unsatisfactory pacing make the novel fall short in this aspect. As for ecchi content, while it's not pornographic, I've seen spoilers suggesting that the first sexual encounter won't happen until around chapter 120-130, leaving the majority of the story focusing on the power progression, which has already been disappointing in the first hundred chapters.
Hey guys.. I read RI so I have a pretty high standard on what I want to read.. Can the MC cook or nah ? Kindly give your honest opinion.. I got bamboozled by some motherfuckers who baited me on reading wh*r* sh*t like BoDS, TDE, etc. I tend to go for novels that have a ruthless mc with no harem/romance tags. I know it's a limiting factor but kindly give some good recommendations since I have been tainted with the dao of novel reading. Thanks..
There’s like 3 images of only Vaan in the wiki but none for anyone else. Ik the author has a disc if you wanna look.
Pls update!!!!!! Love the storyline!!!
The description of fight was mesmerizing.
I would love to buy the physical books for this but I’m a minor so buying this would be kinda sus
I know that there's alot of talk about a terrible ending and that it was a whole waste of time, but tell me, ìs the story up till the ending good, cause I couldn't care less about a bad ending
