I tried to keep up with where things was going but the main male character is a complete bore with no changes throughout 18+ chapters.

And the guards? They followed her the entire time and still had no idea what was happening. She basically toured half the inner court while they were too confused to intervene. This woman is operating on a completely different level than everyone else in this residence. She walks into a lion's den, gets used by the Heir, survives the night, and then casually maps out the entire palace layout while pretending to be a clumsy girl who can't find her way back. The plot structure here is brilliant because it makes you think Su Wantang is the victim—she's the concubine-born daughter, she's being used as a surrogate, she's being mistreated by her so-called sister. But every time you feel sorry for her, she reveals another layer of competence. The banquet setup at the end with Su Huajin forcing her to stand like a servant while other concubine-born daughters get seats? That's not oppression, that's Su Wantang being completely unfazed. She's playing 4D chess while everyone else is playing checkers.
