Okay, I need to talk about Lu Jinyu because honestly he is making me so frustrated right now. Like, he admits to everything to protect Lin Guanguan, gets thirty lashes for it, and what does she do? She literally says "Brother Jinyu admitted it, so why report it?" — wait, WHAT? She orchestrated the whole rumor mill and then lets him take the blame like it's nothing. But then the carriage scene happens and my brain short-circuits. She throws herself at him, crying, saying she'll admit it was all her fault at the Jingzhao Residence, and he just... melts. Of course he melts. He pulls her into his arms, says "No one but you will I ever marry," and then they make out in the carriage like this is some romance novel instead of the aftermath of a defamation scandal. Song Zhiyao notices their red lips and is just... done. She's speechless. And I respect that. She sees two people hopelessly infatuated with each other and somehow it's both pathetic and kind of sad. Meanwhile, Lin Guanguan is playing the victim so well. "I'm lowly born; the Lu family has never valued me." Manipulative, absolutely manipulative, but Lu Jinyu eats it up. He's been conditioned his whole life to soften for her tears. The dynamic between them is toxic in the best storytelling way — you know they're going to keep going in circles, and you can't look away. And then there's Lu Yanzhi, who just said "My wife is not open to debate" to Qin Yu like it was nothing. Cold. Final. Song Zhiyao is standing right there and he still doesn't really acknowledge her properly, but he also doesn't pretend she isn't there. That's... something, I guess.
