Once again you took me on an enchanting adventure! Such a great storyteller. I have read all of the books in this family and can’t wait for more. You are my number one author here. Great storyline, written well, awesome characters, good twists and turns and held my interest from start to finish.
Can we talk about the scene where Yu Zhi finds out about the photos? Like, she's just scrolling on her phone, minding her own business, and suddenly she's furious. Not because she doesn't trust Pei Yuezhou—well, maybe a little—but because the media painted this intimate moment that wasn't real, and she's tired of being the woman who gets hurt by other people's narratives. The way she shuts him out is so telling. She won't even look at him when he comes out of the shower, all damp hair and collarbone and that robe barely tied. Any other day, she'd be teasing him, maybe stealing a kiss. But not tonight. She's got principles, and she's sticking to them. "I hate men who don't uphold male virtue. Understand?" And Pei Yuezhou—oh, Pei Yuezhou. He's bewildered. Like, genuinely confused. He doesn't understand why she's upset because, in his world, these things are normal. The photos are fake, the councilman's daughter was there with her boyfriend, it was all staged. But he also doesn't get why she cares. And that's the emotional gap between them, isn't it? He's used to manipulating situations; she's used to being honest. The moment she straddles his waist and asks if he loves her—really loves her—is where it all shifts. She's not just testing him; she's claiming him. And when he whispers "Okay, it's yours. Everything's yours," that's not submission. That's devotion. That's a man who would give her the keys to his entire world because she asked nicely. I'm not okay with how much I liked that. I'm not okay with how much I rooted for her to get what she wanted.
I liked the book from what I could read of it...It shouldn't cost more than $20 though :( :(
