Book was a horrible repetitive mess !!
The pacing in these chapters is actually really interesting because it mirrors the filmmaking process itself. You've got the early morning rush, the efficient shooting, the smooth progression through scenes — and then there's this deliberate slowing down in the middle where we get all the backstory about the film's plot, the characters of Zheng Wen and Tong Xiaole, the family conflicts. It's almost like the narrative is taking a breath, letting you sit with what they're creating. And then — boom — 'The entire film was shot in just one month.' One sentence. One paragraph. We go from scene-by-scene detail to the wrap. It's a structural choice that actually works because it mirrors how filmmaking feels: these long days of meticulous work, and then suddenly it's over and you're standing there in disbelief. The transition from the first day of shooting to the wrap party is handled with this same economy. We don't get every single day documented — we get key moments, key conversations, and then the culmination. The wrap party itself is where the pacing really pays off. All that tension Chi Ying was holding — 'she had actually been on edge the entire time' — finally releases. The toast, the toasts to the teachers, the emotional breakdown. It's the release valve after a month of controlled pressure. And the ending — Professor Shen offering to introduce Chi Ying to promising students, the teachers recognizing her potential — it sets up the next phase without rushing it. The structure here is confident. It knows when to linger and when to move fast. It trusts the reader to fill in the gaps. And honestly, that's a mark of really skilled storytelling.
