I need to talk about Fan Shengmei's family situation because honestly it made me so angry I had to put the phone down for a minute. So this girl gets publicly humiliated, her dignity is basically shredded on a hotel floor, and what's her first thought? Not revenge. Not even self-pity. She thinks about how she's going to pay her nephew's tuition. Her mother calls and basically guilt-trips her into sending thirty thousand more, and Fan Shengmei—who just got betrayed by Qu Lianjie with a FAKE bag—curls up on her bed and bites her lip hard enough to draw blood so her roommates don't hear her cry. "This was a shared apartment. Guan Ju'er and Qiu Yingying were in the next room. She couldn't let them hear." That single line destroyed me. She's carrying the entire weight of her family on her back, being used and mocked, and her biggest fear isn't poverty—it's being a burden or causing inconvenience even to herself. The fact that she paid off her brother's gambling debt the month before and her mother STILL calls her heartless? I was feral. And then Meng Yancheng sends her a six-zero Hermès as an apology gift, and instead of feeling relieved, she feels like she's holding a LIVE BOMB. She buries it in her wardrobe. Carries it to work and hides it in her drawer. She can't even enjoy the gesture because accepting it means accepting that someone saw her at her worst and is now trying to buy her silence with seven figures. The emotional complexity here is INSANE. She doesn't know whether to hate him, thank him, or run away—and honestly neither do I.
very good book keeps you interested has funny parts and very serious parts but overall a good book
