Just finished reading this book and all I can say is Bravo!!! Apart from some few grammatical errors, the author did a great job. I love the twist and how unpredictable the novel was. Looking forward to reading more of your books. Hopefully, you would drop another wonderful piece soon.

It's a complete emotional arc in what amounts to a single meal. That's skilled pacing. The transition from the Jiang family's scheming to Jiang Mian's quiet life in the Shi household is also doing heavy lifting. We get Jiang Linming's internal monologue about how Jiang Mian isn't his biological child and it wouldn't be heart-wrenching if he died—right before we see Jiang Mian's innocent, hopeful face. The contrast hits like a truck every time. And that ending with the investigation report? Perfect cliffhanger. Shi Jinnian is digging into Jiang Mian's background, which means he's not just treating him as a servant anymore. He's curious. And curiosity from a character like Shi Jinnian is basically romantic tension in disguise. The author knows exactly how to keep you turning pages.
I started reading this at 11 PM. It is now 2 AM. I have no regrets. The pacing here is absolutely ruthless in the best way. Each chapter is short, punchy, and ends on a note that makes you immediately want the next one. Chapter 1 ends with the birthday banquet announcement—that's a ticking clock right there, and I'm already counting down the hours until it happens. Chapter 2 ends with Lu Huaijin protecting Xia Yingying and Xia Nanxing storming out furious. Chapter 3 starts with the system dialogue and immediately drops the backstory about her father's five million offer. Every transition is designed to keep you hooked. What's really clever is how the author balances the fast external pacing with slow internal reveals. We get the cafe confrontation in real-time, quick and brutal, and then suddenly we're pulled back five years to understand why Xia Nanxing is in this position. The father's scene—"Here's five million, leave my daughter"—mirrors the opening so perfectly it's almost poetic. It's not just backstory; it's structural echo. The system interjections are also pacing masterstrokes. They come at exactly the right moments to either heighten tension (the warning before the slap) or provide comic relief (the banter about her heart attack). They prevent the story from becoming too heavy without slowing it down. And the cliffhangers! Lu Huaijin slamming the car door, Xia Nanxing being told to apologize for something she didn't do, the looming birthday banquet—each one is a hook that demands the next chapter. The author knows exactly when to cut away and when to linger. There's not a single drag in these seven chapters. Not one.
