This novel is a jem. Honestly I’m surprised it’s not premium, but at the same time I’m glad it’s not ‘cause then I can read it’s awesomeness for free. Anyways, review time - this is not your stereotypical MC blasts through all opposition novel. Yes, there is an understandable amount of plot armor but this is one of the most realistic novels I have ever read. There’s suffering, unfairness, discrimination, abuse, betrayals, deaths (many, many deaths), blood (this novel is gory), sweat, tears (you will cry for the characters) and more. The characters are very dynamic and change/grow as the story progresses. Also, one of my favorite things is that not just the MC has a rich character profile, the side characters as well are very fleshed out and not the usual 2D supporting cast we usually get. There’s also a great deal of humor and shamelessness that’ll make you laugh - a good balance between humor and action. The astute reader will also find that the author has a fondness for references to both historical and fictional characters/events so don’t be too surprised when it happens. Some readers have commented that they don’t like the references but I enjoy keeping an eye out for them and seeing where the author will take the story next. Also, one of the big things I find that can dissuade a potential reader is that this novel is a very slow starter. Don’t expect the MC to become OP within the first 20 chapters, his buildup is very slow and while it can be frustrating looking back it does set a very good background. Also, the MC is very much an underdog and has to bow, scrape and adjust to the circumstances but as the story progresses he will eventually have enough power to throw his weight around, don’t worry. As far as the music side goes, not sure if this counts as a spoiler or not but musicians in this novel are like mages and their “spells” are cast through songs. It’s mostly along the classical genre, if you’re that invested then look up the referenced songs - they’re all good classics, author has good taste. Also the cover image will make more sense later on in the story, don’t worry. All in all, it is a great novel with a rich plot, complex characters, unique storyline, great humor, action and is full of twists and turns and a great deal of character development. A must read!
