Traveling to the 1970s, I Connect My Grandparents with Red Threads

Wen Sining is a young woman raising her grandmother, Xu Zhiyi, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Her grandmother frequently mistakes Wen Sining for her late great aunt, Wen Lin, due to their striking resemblance. While examining an old photograph of her grandfather, Wen Yun, and Great Aunt Wen Lin, Wen Sining falls asleep and transmigrates into the body of Wen Lin in the year 1976. She awakens in a dilapidated rural home, confronted by her abusive aunt, Huang Juan, and cousin, Zhang Xiaoli, who are plotting to sell her into marriage to a butcher named Wang Daqiang to secure their own financial gain and romantic ambitions involving Wen Yun.

Wen Sining, now inhabiting the body of her mentally disabled great aunt, must navigate this dangerous new reality. She realizes that Great Aunt Wen Lin was kept in a state of induced foolishness and subjected to physical abuse and starvation by Huang Juan, who embezzled the monthly allowance sent by Wen Yun. Desperate to contact her brother and return home, Wen Sining attempts to flee but encounters Lu Jinkun, a local gang leader with a notorious reputation and a deep-seated rivalry with Wen Yun. Despite his initial hostility and suspicion that she is feigning her condition, Lu Jinkun takes her to his home, where his grandmother, also suffering from early-stage Alzheimer's, mistakes Wen Sining for Lu Jinkun's deceased daughter-in-law.

Wen Sining devises a plan to expose her abusers. When Huang Juan and Zhang Xiaoli attempt to drug her to facilitate the forced marriage, she reverses the scheme, drugging Zhang Xiaoli instead and allowing Wang Daqiang to take the unconscious girl away. The next morning, Wen Sining publicly reveals the bruises on her arms, garnering the sympathy of the villagers and the intervention of the village chief, Zhao Lusheng. Huang Juan, facing exposure, falsely accuses Lu Jinkun of bullying Wen Lin to deflect suspicion. However, Wen Sining arrives at the Lu residence to clear Lu Jinkun's name, revealing Huang Juan's true crimes. The arrival of public security officers leads to the arrest of Huang Juan and Zhang Xiaoli's mother, Huang Ting, for their roles in the abuse and illegal marriage arrangements.

During the chaos, Wen Sining retrieves the hidden stash of money and coupons that Huang Juan had stolen from Wen Yun over the years, burying it temporarily before the authorities arrive. With Huang Juan arrested and the truth revealed, the villagers apologize to Lu Jinkun for their previous misunderstandings. Wen Sining secures her safety and begins to rebuild her life in 1976, determined to protect her great aunt's legacy and prevent the tragic misunderstandings that plagued her family in the future. Her relationship with Lu Jinkun remains complex, marked by mutual suspicion and reluctant alliance, as she seeks to uncover the full history of her family and find a way back to her own time.
