That's how you know the author isn't a Chinese native. Their characters kill people just for breathing around them. I will admit though, the idea that you can peacefully resolve every problem without death in a midevil setting is retarded to say the least. That's one of those fantasy elements I guess. That your enemy will be thankful for you sparing their life instead of bashing your head in with the nearest rock cause you took his sword.
