Su Shu, the legitimate eldest daughter of the Su family, lived a life defined by her marriage to Ruan Qingchuan, a frail but deeply affectionate man from the prominent Ruan family. Despite her husband’s constant illness and her own initial disdain for his delicate constitution, she found herself drawn into the complex political and social web of the Ruan estate. After Ruan Qingchuan’s sudden death, Su Shu was left a widow with no children of her own. Stripped of her status and resources, Su Shu retreated to a secluded courtyard named Jingwu, where she lived in isolation and grief, slowly withering away until her death.

Upon her death, Su Shu experienced a profound rebirth, awakening not in the afterlife but in her own body during her youth, specifically in the year of her coming-of-age ceremony at age fifteen. She found herself back in her maiden home, Qiushui Court, surrounded by people she had lost: her loyal maids Xiu’er and Lian’er, who had died serving her in her previous life, and her beloved younger brother, Su Qiyu, who had died at the age of eleven. The shock of this second chance quickly gave way to a determined resolve. Su Shu realized that Heaven had granted her another opportunity to correct the mistakes of her past life and save those she loved from their tragic fates.

The core conflict of Su Shu’s new life centers on her struggle to protect her family from the internal machinations of the Su household. By aligning herself with her mother, Song Meiru, and supporting the legitimate line of succession, Su Shu aims to dismantle the power base of the concubine’s family before it can threaten her brother’s life or her mother’s well-being.

The story moves forward as Su Shu balances her dual identity: the mature, grieving widow in her mind and the young, seemingly docile daughter in her actions. She uses her knowledge of future events to anticipate threats from the Su family’s rivals and the Ruan family’s internal politics.
