What a shit novel Story base is good but  what the fuck is followed on?

I don't understand what MC is thinking. He's going on an adventure which will be extremely dangerous, yet he is taking 2 girls who are absolutely useless to him. He will waste unnecessary energy to protect them. MC got the hero's complex!
