Little Taotie's Restaurant Life

Yun Tao, a legendary Taotie beast from the ancient Shanhai Realm, awakens after a long slumber caused by ingesting poison in an uncharted secret realm. He finds his body transformed into that of a four-year-old child with soft, chubby hands and tiny horns, his demonic powers scattered and unusable. He is discovered by Yun Fenghe, a frail Earth God who once worshipped in an abandoned restaurant on Shanhai Street. Yun Fenghe, weakened by lack of offerings and suffering from a chronic illness, has cared for the unconscious beast for years. Yun Tao initially considers Yun Fenghe a potential meal but is moved by the god’s selfless devotion and agrees to stay, adopting the surname Yun and calling him brother.

Upon waking, Yun Tao realizes the modern world lacks the spiritual energy and mystical ingredients he once relied on. His hunger remains insatiable, and the meager fish offerings from stray cats are insufficient. A glitchy Shanhai Business System binds to him, offering a path to prosperity through running a restaurant. The system grants him ownership of the abandoned restaurant and tasks him with restoring it to operation within twenty-four hours to earn rewards that can satisfy his hunger. Yun Tao accepts the challenge, cleaning the establishment and preparing to open for business with his brother’s support.

To manage the restaurant, Yun Tao uses a special employee card from the system and summons Tai Sui, a UR-rank entity known as a walking calamity and a delicacy in myth. Tai Sui initially threatens Yun Tao but is instantly subdued when Yun Tao reveals his true identity as a Taotie, one of the Four Fiends. Terrified by the memory of being nearly eaten, Tai Sui submits to Yun Tao’s authority and agrees to work as a busboy and cook. The trio begins selling Zhuyu Egg Pancakes, a dish made with mystical ingredients that provide lasting fullness and emotional stability. The pancakes quickly gain popularity among locals and office workers, with social media posts driving a surge in customers.

As Taotie Delicacies becomes a neighborhood sensation, Yun Tao navigates the challenges of running a business in a low-spiritual-energy era. He builds relationships with neighbors, including Aunt Ying and her daughter Jiang Qing, who become regular customers and promoters. The restaurant’s success allows Yun Tao to earn enough money to buy better food, incense for Yun Fenghe, and supplies from the Shanhai Marketplace. Despite his initial predatory instincts, Yun Tao grows attached to his new family and the stability of his daily routine. The story follows their efforts to expand the business, manage the quirky dynamics between the demon lord, the weak god, and the reluctant employee, and uncover the secrets of the changing world around them.
