There, it lay waiting. A small twinkling drop of green, so luminous that it threatened to blind Vir. Yet somehow, that awesome brightness seemed to be confined to the stone; its light didn't cast anywhere, even though the sky was beginning to darken. Vir was enthralled by the beauty of the green teardrop, and stared at it even though his eyes felt like they were set ablaze. He made a small motion, as if to step forward, but before he could react, the stone shot forward with terrifying speed right at the point between Vir's eyes, transforming into a brilliant streak that could not be avoided. Vir braced himself for complete obliteration of his head, but shockingly, the world went still. The stone levitated right before his eyes. Strange ripples spread from it, warping the space around them, and seemingly after an eternity, the stone sank smoothly into Vir's forehead, all the while placing a sort of pressure on his head that caused excruciating nausea. He dropped hard like a sack of bones, exhaustion overcoming him, and slept soundly, waking just before dusk started to set in. Swearing, he rushed back home, not wanting to be admonished by his mother. As he neared the house he could see the silhouette of a figure still cooking. Relieved, he slipped through the door, making it just in time for dinner to be served. The enticing smell of spices tickled his nose, and his stomach ached with hunger after his dangerous excursion. After wolfing down his food, Vir trudged wearily to his room and completely passed out on his bed.
