Yu Hongdou, a modern office worker, transmigrates into the body of a five-year-old minor character in the popular farming romance novel Tian Yi Man Man. In the original story, this child dies after being pushed into a pond by Liu Shi, a jealous daughter-in-law from the first branch of the extended Yu family. The incident triggers a chain of events where the female protagonist, Tian Manman, eventually marries the male lead, Yu Heng, and heals the fractured family. However, Hongdou, retaining her modern consciousness, rejects this passive fate and resolves to protect her third branch family from the scheming relatives.
Shortly after transmigrating, Hongdou discovers she possesses a Sign-in System that allows her to obtain items and skills by checking in at specific locations marked with green icons. Her first sign-in yields a medicine chest filled with ancient remedies, providing immediate practical value for her frail health. As she explores her new environment, she navigates the complex dynamics of the multi-generational Yu household, where three branches live under one roof, rife with jealousy and competition over resources and status.
The central conflict arises when Liu Shi, pregnant with the first branch's heir, attempts to steal from the Yu family after being sent away for her earlier crime. When Yu Heng is ambushed on Dongshan, Hongdou witnesses the event and realizes the plot is veering off its original course. The rescue and subsequent investigation involve the entire village, highlighting the interconnectedness of the local power structures.
As the story progresses, Hongdou's family plans to move to the city, escaping the toxic environment of Taoyuan Village. This move is facilitated by Yu Song's official position and Yu Sanlang's work for the magistrate.
