Famine Years: My Portable Dimension is Full of Grain, Making My Scumbag Father’s Family Gutted with Regret

Tang Tian, a survivor of a post-apocalyptic world, dies amidst a horde of zombies and is reborn into the body of a four-year-old girl in the Great Qi Dynasty. The year is the fourth of a devastating famine, and the Tang family in Tangjia Fort is on the brink of starvation. Tang Tian awakens in the courtyard of her grandmother, Tang Laotai, while her mother, Li Qiushuang, begs for money to treat Tang Tian’s fever. Tang Laotai, along with her second and third sons and their wives, refuses to help, viewing Tang Tian and her siblings as jinxes responsible for the family’s misfortunes. They brutally drive Li Qiushuang and her three children—Tang Chuan, Tang Hai, and Tang Tian—out of the main house into a dilapidated shack.

Despite her young body, Tang Tian possesses the mind of an adult and a spatial dimension filled with supplies from her previous life. She uses a recovery potion to heal her fever and begins to strategize. She discovers that her grandmother and uncles have been secretly hoarding food while forcing Li Qiushuang and the children to survive on bran cakes and wild vegetables. Tang Tian steals fifty catties of coarse rice and other food from the Tang family’s cellar, using her spatial ability to transport it to her new home. This act of theft marks the beginning of her family’s separation from the abusive Tang household.

The situation escalates when Tang Dayong, Li Qiushuang’s husband who was reported dead in battle, returns alive. However, he has not returned for a reunion; he has been appointed Zhaoyong General and has married Princess Wulan of the White Wolf Tribe. Tang Dayong demands that Li Qiushuang accept demotion from wife to concubine so he can marry the princess as his official wife. He justifies this by claiming Li Qiushuang failed in her duties and that the children are sickly or simple-minded due to her negligence. The Tang family supports Tang Dayong, viewing Li Qiushuang as a burden and her children as useless. Tang Tian witnesses her father’s cruelty and her grandmother’s greed, realizing that their family is beyond redemption.

Tang Tian takes charge, encouraging her mother to fight for their rights rather than succumb to despair. She leads Li Qiushuang to the county magistrate’s office to file a complaint. There, Tang Tian uses her sharp wit to expose the Tang family’s hypocrisy and Tang Dayong’s ungratefulness. She argues that the family courtyard was built with her mother’s dowry and demands its return as part of a mutual separation. The villagers and officials, swayed by Tang Tian’s eloquence and the evident injustice, support Li Qiushuang. Tang Dayong, fearing scandal and damage to his reputation, agrees to the divorce and the separation of household registration.

With the divorce finalized, Li Qiushuang gains custody of the three children and the family courtyard. Tang Tian also secures a change in their status from Military Household to farming household, allowing her eldest brother Tang Chuan to pursue education. The Tang family, stripped of their leverage, leaves for the capital with Tang Dayong and Princess Wulan. However, before departing, Tang Laotai strips the Tang family courtyard of all movable assets, leaving Li Qiushuang and her children with nothing but the empty structure.

Despite starting with nothing, Tang Tian remains optimistic. She uses her spatial abilities to gather food from the mountains, including wild chicken and hawthorn berries, which she shares with the villagers to build goodwill. She also discovers that the spring water in her space can enhance the quality of food, making it more attractive to animals. Tang Tian plans to start a business by growing bean sprouts, a profitable venture during the famine. Her goal is to improve her family’s living conditions and protect her mother and brothers from further harm. The story follows Tang Tian’s journey from a victim of family abuse to the head of her household, using her intelligence and supernatural abilities to navigate the challenges of a famine-stricken society.
