The short story will continue to be the staple of the one-semester literature course, and rightfully so, but for those instructors who would like to add a longer piece or two without committing to a full-scale novel, the in-between stories I've suggested are worth consideration. Of course, my list is far from exhaustive and there are many more fine works whose lengths fall in that gray area betwixt story and novella. Teachers have to beware of publishing tricks and traditional perceptions. They have to look between the covers of the book to decide if it is a length their students can manage. They very well may discover what Forster described as a "beautifully shaped" work whose "final effect is pre-arranged. . .and is completely successful when it comes" (153). A gift well worth sharing with students of literature.

His body was shivering every time they move and growl, his cloth was sticking to his body thanks to the cold sweat, his breath was short and rapid, he was eye unblinking, moving around to collect all their move and behavior. His grin was stretched to the fullest as he stops pretending to be human.

Scene 3:

My mana capacity could maybe rival the caster class servant as it has A-rank but my magic circuit can be counted as average at best. A poor-machine will always have low performance no matter how many high grades, the fuel is.

I'm so glad I found this masterpiece. This engaging story is well written with only a few grammatical errors, providing a great experience for its readers. From this work, you can expect a strong FMC in a normal world that's turning into a sword-magic world with elements of an apocalypse. This is not a story where the FMC forsakes her relationships in the pursuit of power, but she also doesn't forsake her growth nor overprotect them. By that rule you may face not just Riya's point of view, but also her friend's point of view and some other characters that hopefully give way for character development along the story.In summary, this is a thriller you won't regret diving into it if you want a strong FMC where romance is not a major part of the story.
